Linda López

Linda López has 22 years of experience with home education on both a personal and a professional level. She taught her own four children through high school and is well known in the metro area as a co-coordinator of YEAH and a tutor at The Academy for over a decade. In addition, Linda is a workshop presenter on topics related to high school testing, college preparation, transcripts, and the ins and outs of PSEO (post secondary enrollment option) and the merits of homeschooling through high school.

Metro area home educators long have benefitted from her great presentation of these high school topics, and we’re making it easy for everyone coming to this year’s Conference to attend both events by scheduling them back-to-back. Come prepared to have all your practical questions answered at this great 6-hour workshop from 9-3 on Friday.

Margaret Berns

Margaret Berns blogs on the prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of life as a wife and homeschooling mother at Minnesota Mom. Her profile there says it best:
I find that few things in life can't be fixed by a good strong cup of coffee and/or the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. What more do you need to know? Oh, alright. I'm wife to the cutest patent lawyer this side of the Mississippi and mom to ten great kids, (four of whom are in heaven). We like to laugh. We tout the joys of Catholic homeschooling. We eat a lot of ice cream.

In her two workshops, Margaret will talk about God's uniques graces for your home school and will give a humorous look at those daily teachable moments. Come prepared to be uplifted and encouraged!

I do have one small story about Margaret that you may not know – she’s a big fan of this conference; in fact, last year she didn't want to miss it and attended with a 4 day old baby! When you see her this year, be sure to wish Anthony a happy first birthday!

Father Sam Medley

We first met Father Sam Medley last year as the very enthusiastic representative for Our Lady of Corpus Christi Catholic College, and we’re very glad he’s able to return. This year he will join us as a speaker and celebrant for our Saturday morning Mass.

Father Sam has attended the Angelicum, speaks ten languages, and has four university degrees, but don’t let that intimidate you – his love is working with young people, and the Lord has clearly outfitted him for this work. He has experience as a youth minister and high school teacher, and currently serves as the college's chaplain, a spiritual director, formator of seminarians, and he's a newly ordained priest (July 2008).

Father Sam will speak about how we can use Our Lady of Fatima's example to recognize our children's call to sanctity, and he'll draw on his experience as a spiritual director to home educating mothers as he teaches how we can pray throughout the day.

You can find out more about Father from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or his blog. (And if you don’t know what one or more of those things are, ask your teens to help you out– Fr. Sam is a great guy for them to get to know too!)

2010 Line-up

We're working hard here in our plush office suite (i.e. our kitchen tables) updating the site and finalizing the schedule and speakers for the 2010 Minnesota Catholic Home Education Conference and Curriculum Fair; we're REALLY excited about the line-up! I'll just give a quick list now, but in the upcoming days, I'll highlight each of the speakers individually and give you a little taste of the expertise and inspiration our attendees have in store.

Policy Question: How are the Conference prices determined?

Thank you to everyone who filled out a survey on Saturday. It really does help us evaluate and plan for next year. Having the ability to communicate with some many of you electronically via this site and email, we now have a great way to explain a couple of policies that are commonly misunderstood.

Must I pay if I only want to attend part of the Conference?
Many people ask if they can attend part of the conference without paying the attendance fee (or paying a reduced rate). We are charged per person for the event facility rental and obtain insurance based on the number of participants. In some cases, the amount we charge does not even cover the per person facilitiy fee (i.e. teens and married couples), but we are committed to keeping the cost as low as possible. The conference is organized by volunteers who are passionate about Catholic home education. We will keep the fees as low as possible, but we must charge for every person attending.
