The day begins with the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass. Each child, all the way up to age 18, is instructed by priests and sisters in age-specific Catechesis. Our Lady of Good Counsel Pine River, MN Consists of around 20 families from a 30-mile radius. We meet the first Friday of the month. Schedule is as follows: 8-9 a.m. confessions heard; 9-10 a.m. first class period, 10-11 a.m. second class period, 11:15 Benediction, 11:30 Mass, followed by lunch in the church basement. Two different classes are offered each year, and students are divided into appropriate age groups. We have offered science, art, speech, apologetics, etc. We have paid instructors, but often just have parent volunteers. Parent meeting every other month on third Monday. We hold an annual Valentine's Day party, May Crowning service for the Blessed Mother, field trips arranged by parent volunteers and a bi-annual science and creativity fair. Veritas In Academia Loretto, MN The mission of Veritas in Academia (VIA) is to support homeschool parents in their role as primary educators of their children by coordinating the availability of solid Catholic tutors providing authentic Catholic academics.
VIA began in 2014 and meets Tuesdays at the Ss. Peter and Paul Church Parish Center in Loretto. Classes are held 15 weeks per fall and spring semester with a full day of class offerings for students from 3 years old through high school. Parents choose which classes work best for their families. Classes for younger students include Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (levels 1-3), Children's House, Phy Ed, Art, Music, Science, Spanish, Latin, Drama, and more. 7th/8th grade and high school classes have included General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish, Latin, Literature, Drama, Drawing, Painting, History (American, Ancient, Minnesota), Government, Public Speaking, Computer Basics, Apologetics, Scripture, IEW Writing, College Writing, Self-Defense, and more (classes rotate from year to year).
Other amenities include 8 am Mass, on-site adoration chapel, dining hall for lunch and quiet family study, a library/nursery for parents with younger children, open gym time, and playgrounds for parent-supervised play. Parent volunteers coordinate fall and spring field trips and service projects, as well as highlight the liturgical year with an All Saints Day celebration, Our Lady of Guadalupe potluck, Easter festivities, and a May crowning. We offer VIA Game Nights each month for students in 7th-12th grade and end our year with an Extravaganza that includes piano performances, student artwork, a project fair, and class displays.
