If you're interested in exploring more about this method, you may want to start your research with this free e-book offered by Simply Charlotte Mason. There is lots of explanation on the method, but it will also help you choose materials for each school subject. And then, of course, we recommend you make Jennifer Mackintosh's workshops a priority in your Conference schedule! Subject by Subject the Charlotte Mason Way is available as both an e-book and an audiobook at no cost to you. Read the e-book version anywhere on your tablet, smart phone, or laptop. Listen to the audiobook while doing housework, exercising, or waiting for your child’s piano lesson to finish. And feel free to share the book with others. It’s a great introduction to the unique methods that Charlotte Mason used. Pass it along to your homeschool friends who are looking for an approach that will work well for their families. Share the audiobook with your spouse who wants to learn more about what you’re doing and why. Its chapters are short, so they won’t feel overwhelmed. Each school subject is presented in easy-to-digest, bite-sized chunks.
Plus, there are chapters that talk about giving your children a generous curriculum and the principles that encourage good habits: using short lessons to encourage attention; emphasizing quality over quantity to instill a habit of best effort; and sequencing the subjects throughout the day to use different parts of the brain. The e-book version contains links to helpful resources and extra articles, a sample schedule, a Subjects At-a-Glance chart, and more. We love Charlotte Mason’s brilliant methods, and we want to make it as simple as possible for you to use them in your home school. That’s why we are providing this quick overview of how to teach each school subject in a Charlotte Mason way. Whether you want to add a method or two to your existing curriculum, work your way up to them gradually, go all out from the start, or bring someone else along on the adventure, your free copy of Subject by Subject the Charlotte Mason Way will help you find your way one subject at a time. Why [are] Well-Read Mom group[s] important? One reason is that we long to preserve what is good, true and beautiful from our western tradition. Sometimes we mistakenly think that to save something we need to build walls of protection around it. But it is just the opposite, at least in this case, to preserve what we love, it needs to be communicated.
Reading literature together is not a small thing. It is a contagious way to communicate truths about the human condition. One book at a time, our moral imagination is being educated to a greater truth of reality. And why is this important? I firmly believe that to become a culture of life we need imaginations that are well-formed. Literature helps us see the world through a wider, yet more focused lens. We come to understand our own need, and we grow in empathy for others. Reading great books is a key to cultural change. And cultural change is what is happening. Not only is Well-Read Mom impacting the lives of the women participating, but it is also, in a small but real way, beginning to ripple into the culture. The Charlotte Mason method is based on Charlotte's firm belief that the child is a person and we must educate that whole person, not just his mind. If you would like to learn more about her "living methods" we recommend you prioritize attending Jennifer Mackintosh's workshops while you're at the Conference.

The Morning Basket is a collection of inspiring books and things that is ageless in its offerings, span abilities, speak to loveliness, and give the day an inspiring start. In this workshop, you will learn the four essential things that will streamline your day and rebuild culture through the Morning Basket, brainstorm about how to build your own Morning Basket, learn how to implement Morning Basket with kids from high school to preschool, and talk about some common challenges you may encounter in Morning Basket time. |
